Job Description & Qualifications

Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining and profitably growing sales to achieve yearly sales goals for specific product line or industry in assigned region. Educate the sales force and customers on product line or industry and resolves issues. This position requires operation of a Company Vehicle or a Personal Vehicle and such operation is done consistently more than 20% of the average work week. If selected for this position, HD Supply will run a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report. A requirement of this position is an acceptable MVR report.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Makes sales calls with sales representatives, contacting customers and making sales presentations. Teams with National Sales Managers on presentations and proposals for large customers.
  • Trains sales associates on all aspects for assigned HDS product category or industry; focusing on product knowledge and sales techniques.
  • Develops and implements plans to expand business presence. Shares market and competitor information with all applicable channels within the organization; establishes relationships and working partnerships.
  • Resolves issues for customers and sales representatives in assigned region.
  • Attends trade shows and promote assigned product line or industry. Attends the monthly business meetings for all company sponsored associations.

    Nature and Scope

  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.
  • Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to results expected. Determines and develops approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
  • May oversee the completion of projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Contributes to employees professional development but does not have hiring or firing authority.

    Work Environment

  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
  • Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.
  • Typically requires overnight travel more than 50% of the time.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age
  • Must pass the Drug Test
  • Must pass the Background Check
  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

    Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally 5-8 years of experience in related field; certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas.

     

 

Preferred Qualifications & Job Specific Details

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific Core & Main product category or emerging industry background.
  • Work with our branches to maximize Meters/AMR/AMI opportunities. Job responsibilities will include:
  • Writing specifications and proposals
  • Presentations
  • Cost accounting for installation projects
  • Trouble shooting
  • Liability analysis
  • Liaison with vendors associated with all aspects of Meters/AMR/AMI
  • Explore new markets and email your direct manager and copy the district managers in your territory monthly of changes and all related issues of Meters/AMR/AMI business including status of open and future projects. 

 

AMR/AMI Presentations and Engineering Calls:

A minimum of 2 formal AMR/AMI presentations per quarter. The term “formal presentation” refers to those presentations given at the level of Public Works Directors, City Council, Mayor, City Manager, Board of Public Affairs, or Board of Directors. A minimum of 2 formal AMR/AMI presentations per quarter to Consulting Engineers on the concept of

AMR/AMI systems.

 

Training:

Training of all HD Supply Waterworks personnel within the territory (specified branches) to educate and update personnel with new market and product information. Training should include product information, competitive product analysis, pricing issues, maintenance and exchange plan options, and any other pertinent or important information.

 

Municipal Liaison:

Represent Core & Main at regional, state, and national industry functions. Coordinate displays, dinners, and outings as appropriate for these events. Ensure approvals secured by management prior to making commitments. Assist the National Services Group in the promotion of project finance and management.
